At the time this song was written, I was listening to a lot of She & Him and discovering the influences behind Zooey Deschanel’s oddball folk music. I layered major-seventh chords over some Motown beats and the song wrote itself. The chorus has some catchy string arrangements that I subconsciously stole from Belle and Sebastian’s Dear Catastrophe Waitress. The line, “I’ll be your Vitruvian Man” was an idea I got from my fiancé Cj de Silva, who I was dating at that time. She was an art school graduate and we had a wonderful discussion about her Da Vincian approach on human anatomy.
