This is my first time to write a really fast song. It’s 193 beats per minute to be exact.

I like the fact that it’s melodic but the tempo is fast, similar to stuff The Smiths did.

The part where I sing “I love the mat” is partly inspired by Juliana Hatfield’s harmony vocal work for The Lemonheads. I was deep into Juliana Hatfield’s albums when I wrote this one.

The people are leaving on the dot
Leaving me here in this spot
I rearrange the furniture
Bring out a book, crash on the mat
(I love the mat)

I've never been quite a sociopath
But being alone is all that
I order a cake; it's cinnamon
Took out my phone: I'm a photograph

Now I get to be all by myself
Now I get to be all by myself
My party's just begun

Now I answer to nobody else
Now I answer to nobody else
My table's just for one

Takin' a shower in the dark
The body goes woo-hoo-hoo-hoo
When I go barefoot in the park
I pray to the trees for this kind of life
(This kind of life)

The traffic in here robs me of time
Alone in the wilderness is fine
Was I a monk in a previous life?
Live by a brook, sleep like a cat
